ED raids Uddhav Sena leaders in Nagpur over sand smuggling
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids on the homes and offices of several leaders from the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena in Nagpur.
These raids were part of an investigation into a sand smuggling case from 2021.
The raids started early in the morning and involved 10 teams from Nagpur and Delhi.
The ED is looking into financial transactions and assets related to illegal sand mining.
Some of the people whose places were searched are also linked to a Congress leader.
The raids happened just before the municipal elections, which some people think might affect the Shiv Sena's chances.
The case was originally started by the Nagpur Police and later handed over to the ED.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided the residences and offices of Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena leaders in Nagpur on January 12, 2024, in connection with a 2021 sand smuggling case.
The raids were conducted by 10 teams from Nagpur and Delhi at 56 locations across Saoner, Khapa, Patansaongi, and nearby areas.
The ED is examining large-scale financial transactions, benami assets, and alleged proceeds of crime linked to illegal sand excavation.
