Chilean Community Powers Human Chatbot to Highlight AI's Environmental Toll

In a unique project, a community in Chile decided to run a chatbot powered entirely by humans instead of artificial intelligence.

About 50 volunteers took turns answering questions and drawing pictures for people around the world.

The goal was to show how much water and electricity AI systems use, especially in places like Quilicura, which has many data centers.

The human chatbot took longer to respond but showed that not every question needs an instant answer.

The project also highlighted that while AI is useful, people should think more about its impact on the environment, especially in areas with water shortages.

Big companies like Google, Amazon, and Microsoft have data centers in the region, and there's ongoing debate about their environmental effects.
