Kerala Court Rules Karmayodha Film Plagiarized
A court in Kerala, India, has ruled that the film Karmayodha copied a writer's work without permission.
The writer, Reji Mathew, said the filmmaker, Major Ravi, used his story, characters, and dialogues without giving him credit or paying him.
The court found that the film was very similar to Mathew's original work and ordered Ravi to pay Mathew 30 lakh rupees as compensation.
The court also said that Ravi and others involved in the film cannot use or remake the film without giving Mathew credit.
This case started when Mathew found out that Ravi was making a film with a similar story to the one he had shared with him earlier.
Kerala's Kottayam Commercial Court ruled that the film Karmayodha plagiarized writer Reji Mathew's screenplay and dialogues.
The court ordered filmmaker Major Ravi to pay Rs 30 lakh in compensation to Mathew for copyright infringement.
Mathew alleged that Ravi used his work without consent or proper accreditation, and the court found substantial similarities between the two works.
The court permanently restrained Ravi and others from exhibiting, remaking, or reproducing the film without attributing authorship to Mathew.
The judgement was delivered on November 21, with the defendants given two months to pay the compensation.
