Manipur Violence: NIA Probes Killing, Survivor Dies
In Manipur, a man named Mayanglambam Rishikanta Singh from the Meitei community was kidnapped and killed by suspected Kuki militants.
The government has asked a special agency, the NIA, to investigate this crime.
Meanwhile, a young Kuki woman who was gang-raped during the ethnic violence in 2023 died recently.
She had been very sick and sad because of what happened to her.
Many people are asking for justice for both of these incidents.
There has been a lot of fighting between the Meitei and Kuki groups in Manipur, and over 260 people have been killed.
The Kuki groups are also asking for their own separate government to live peacefully.
Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla announced that the killing of Mayanglambam Rishikanta Singh by suspected Kuki militants has been handed over to the NIA for investigation.
Singh, a Meitei man, was abducted from his home in Churachandpur and later found dead near Natjang village.
The militants, suspected to be from the United Kuki National Army (UNKA), also abducted Singh's Kuki wife but later released her.
A Kuki woman, who was gang-raped during the 2023 ethnic violence, died on January 10, 2024, due to trauma and lack of justice.
Kuki organizations demand a separate administration for Kuki-Zo groups and a time-bound, impartial probe into the incidents of violence against Kuki-Zo-Hmar women.
