Chhattisgarh HC Allows Rape Survivor to Terminate 21-Week Pregnancy
A young girl who was raped was allowed by a court to end her pregnancy.
The court said it was her personal choice and important for her health.
Doctors checked her and said it was safe.
The law allows this up to 24 weeks, and her pregnancy was 21 weeks.
The court wanted to make sure she wasn't forced to have the baby, which would have been very hard for her.
Chhattisgarh High Court allowed a minor rape survivor to terminate her 21-week pregnancy.
The court stated that forcing her to continue the pregnancy would violate her bodily integrity and worsen her trauma.
Justice Parth Prateem Sahu ruled that the minor's decision was her personal choice and part of her right to personal liberty.
A medical board confirmed the girl was physically and mentally fit for the procedure and that the pregnancy was within the legal limit of 24 weeks.
The termination was permitted under provisions allowing abortion between 20 and 24 weeks for certain categories of women.
