Indian Rupee Hits Record Low
The Indian rupee, which is the money used in India, has become weaker compared to the US dollar.
On Wednesday, it reached a new low of 91.6950 rupees for every 1 US dollar.
This happened because people from other countries are taking their money out of India, and there are some worries about a place called Greenland.
Also, the Indian markets weren't doing well, which made people less confident about investing.
This is the lowest the rupee has ever been against the dollar, and it's been getting weaker all month and throughout 2025.
It's also the worst-performing currency in Asia right now.
The Reserve Bank of India tried to help, but it wasn't enough to stop the rupee from falling.
There is hope that the rupee might stabilize soon, but it will depend on how things go with the India-EU trade deal and the Union Budget.
The Indian rupee hit a record low of 91.6950 per US dollar on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.
The decline was driven by foreign fund outflows, risk aversion due to Greenland tensions, and a negative trend in domestic markets.
The rupee has fallen 2% this month and about 5% in 2025, making it the worst-performing Asian currency.
The Reserve Bank of India intervened to curb volatility but was not aggressive enough to reverse the trend.
Foreign institutional investors have pulled out about ₹30,345 crore from Indian equities in January 2025, adding to the strain on the currency.
