INS Sindhukirti Rejoins Indian Navy After Refit
Imagine a really old submarine, like the INS Sindhukirti, that's been fixed up.
This submarine was built a long time ago in the Soviet Union.
It spent time at a shipyard getting fixed up and improved, which cost a lot of money.
Now it's ready to go back to work for the Indian Navy.
This submarine is a Kilo-class, diesel-electric type and will be used for patrols and other missions.
The shipyard is now working on other submarines, and they're even talking about helping other countries with their submarine repairs, too.
INS Sindhukirti, a Soviet-era submarine, has rejoined the Indian Navy after refit.
The refit was completed at Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) in Visakhapatnam.
HSL was awarded a Rs 934 crore contract for the submarine's refit in March 2023.
Sindhukirti is a Kilo-class diesel-electric submarine and will be fully combat worthy.
HSL is preparing to refit a Scorpene-class submarine and is in talks with Vietnam for refit services.
