Pussy Riot Declared Extremist Organization by Russian Court
Pussy Riot is a group of people who make music and protest against the Russian government.
They became famous in 2012 when some of their members were put in jail for protesting in a church.
The Russian government has now said that the whole group is an 'extremist organization,' which means they can't do their activities in Russia anymore.
The group's members are not in Russia right now.
One of the members, Nadya, said that if telling the truth is considered extremism, then they are happy to be called extremists.
The Russian government also wants to arrest Nadya.
Pussy Riot, a Russian anti-Kremlin punk band, was designated an extremist organization by a Moscow court on December 15, 2023.
The ruling was made at the request of the General Prosecutor’s Office, banning the group's activities in Russia.
The band's members are currently outside of Russia and have rejected the charges, calling them politically motivated.
Pussy Riot gained global prominence in 2012 for a protest against President Vladimir Putin in a Russian Orthodox cathedral.
The group opposes Moscow’s war in Ukraine and has become a symbol of anti-Kremlin protest action.
