Flash Flood Sweeps Away Homes Along Nepal’s Budhi Gandaki River
A river in Nepal rose quickly and flooded nearby places.
The water swept away many houses in villages along the river.
It also affected bridges and a camp connected to a hydropower project.
Officials said no one had been reported killed or injured by Sunday morning.
They are still finding out how much damage happened.
One possible explanation is that a landslide blocked a nearby stream, but this has not been confirmed.
The disaster authority warned people near the river to move somewhere safer.
The exact cause and full damage are not yet known.
Floodwaters in Nepal’s Gorkha district swept away dozens of houses and damaged other infrastructure along the Budhi Gandaki River.
Some houses in Jagat and Salleri villages and a camp serving the 341-MW Budhi Hydroelectric Project were swept away.
Local media reported that suspension bridges and a steel bridge were also swept away, and a hydropower construction site was damaged.
No casualties had been reported as of Sunday morning, and officials said the full extent of the damage was still being assessed.
A landslide may have blocked the Syar Khola and triggered the flood, but the cause has not been confirmed; authorities warned riverside residents to move to safety.
