The Reserve Bank of India has published the bank holiday list for September 2026.

Banks will close on different days depending on the city and local festival.

Many listed cities will have a holiday on September 4 for Janmashtami or Krishna Jayanthi.

Banks everywhere will close on September 12 and September 26 because those are the second and fourth Saturdays.

Some cities will also close for Ganesh festivals on September 14 or 15.

Other local holidays include Karma Puja, Indrajatra and special regional observances.

All bank branches will also be closed on Sundays.

People can still use many digital services, such as mobile banking, UPI and ATMs.

September 4
Branches will close in listed cities for Janmashtami (Vaishnava) or Krishna Jayanthi.
September 12
All branches will close nationwide for the second Saturday; Guwahati will also observe the Tirubhav Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva.
September 14
Closures in Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji and Vijayawada will cover Ganesh-related observances.
September 15
Branches in Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar and Panaji will close for Samvatsari, Nuakhai or the second day of Ganesh Chaturthi.
September 21-25
City-specific closures include regional observances in Guwahati, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Ranchi, Jammu, Srinagar and Gangtok.
September 26
All branches will close nationwide for the fourth Saturday.
Digital services
Internet banking, mobile banking, UPI services and ATMs are expected to function during branch closures.
