Scholar Calls for Urgent Documentation of Marathwada’s Distinct Dialect

Dr Sushil Dhaskate spoke about the special way people in Marathwada speak Marathi.

He said this dialect was once considered the standard form of Marathi.

He believes another version of Marathi later became the standard.

He said this has made the Marathwadi dialect weaker and less visible.

Dhaskate wants researchers to record and preserve it.

He also spoke about Marathwada’s long history and culture.

His lecture took place at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University.

The lecture was part of events marking Marathwada Liberation Day.
