Telangana HC Warns Govt on Alleged Illegal Works Near Reservoirs
A judge in Hyderabad is concerned about buildings being constructed too close to two important lakes, Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar.
These areas are supposed to be protected to keep the water clean and safe.
People have told the judge that some companies are building things like convention centers without permission, which might be harming the environment.
The judge is upset because the government and other officials haven't given a good explanation for why this is happening, even though they were asked to before.
The judge has given them a final chance, about three weeks, to explain themselves.
If they don't, the judge said they will stop all building in that protected area.
This is to make sure the water sources are kept safe for everyone.
Telangana High Court criticized the government for alleged illegal construction in bio-conservation zones near Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar reservoirs.
The court warned it would stall all activities in the prohibited zone if the government fails to file counters in response to a PIL.
The PIL alleges violations of environmental protection Acts, Supreme Court/NGT judgments, and state's GO-111.
Petitioner cited specific convention centers allegedly operating without permission in the protected area.
The court granted three weeks as a last opportunity for the government and private parties to file their responses, adjourning the hearing to December 11.
