India's Gender Budget Crosses ₹5 Lakh Crore Mark
India's Gender Budget, which is money set aside for programs that help women, has reached a big milestone.
For the first time, it has crossed ₹5 lakh crore.
This budget includes money for things like free food for poor people, health care, and building houses.
The biggest part of this budget goes to a program called PMGKAY, which gives free food grains to poor families.
There are also funds for schemes that help women get jobs and improve their lives.
The budget has been growing every year, showing that the government is focusing more on helping women and poor people.
India's Gender Budget crossed ₹5 lakh crore for the first time in 2026-27, with an 11.54% increase from the previous year.
The budget is divided into three parts: Part A (100% for women), Part B (30-99% for women), and Part C (up to 30% for women).
The Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) received the highest allocation of ₹1.09 lakh crore under the Gender Budget.
The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) saw an 185% cut in funding, while the Jal Jeevan Mission received a 53.90% increase.
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural) got the highest allocation under Part A, but it was 5% lower than the previous year.
