Modi's 'Dimaagi Naxal' remark sparks political row over dissent

Modi's 'Dimaagi Naxal' remark sparks political row over dissent

Every year, India celebrates the day it became free, called Independence Day.

The leader of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, gave a big speech on this special day.

In his speech, he talked about people he called 'dimaagi Naxals,' which means 'brain Naxals.'

Naxals are people who use violence to fight the government.

Mr Modi said these 'brain Naxals' are a big danger to the country.

Some other leaders, like Mr Chidambaram and Mr Kejriwal, were upset.

They said Mr Modi was calling people who disagree with him bad names.

Another minister, Mr Rijiju, said the word only means people who support the violent Naxals and want to hurt India.

The newspaper that wrote this story thinks both sides made a big deal out of nothing.

It also says the government should pay more attention to problems like students not getting jobs and things being expensive.
