Madhavan Refused to Hide Marriage Before Film Debut

Madhavan Refused to Hide Marriage Before Film Debut

R Madhavan said people in the film industry doubted that he could become a successful movie actor.

They thought he had appeared on television too much because he had acted in about 1,800 episodes.

They also thought audiences would not accept him as a romantic hero because he was already married.

Before Alaipayuthey was released, publicists reportedly asked him not to talk about his wife.

Madhavan said he did not want to pretend that Sarita Birje did not exist.

He told reporters that respecting his wife was more important than following that advice.

The interview became widely known, and he said the old belief about married romantic heroes was broken.

Later, some people doubted that he could move from Tamil films to Hindi films.

He said films such as Rehnaa Hai Terre Mein, Guru and 3 Idiots challenged that belief.
