Arjun Erigaisi and P. Harikrishna Advance in FIDE World Cup; Praggnanandhaa Eliminated
In a big chess tournament called the FIDE World Cup happening in Goa, two Indian players, Arjun Erigaisi and Pentala Harikrishna, have won their matches and are moving on to the next round.
This is great news for India!
Sadly, another talented Indian player, R. Praggnanandhaa, who was a runner-up before, has been knocked out of the competition after losing his tiebreaker game.
This means there are fewer Indian players left in the tournament.
Other Indian players, Pranav V and Karthik Venkataraman, were also eliminated.
A major surprise was Gukesh, the youngest world chess champion, also being eliminated earlier.
Arjun Erigaisi is now the best hope for India to finish in the top three and will face a strong former World Cup winner in the next round.
Arjun Erigaisi and P. Harikrishna advanced to the fifth round of the FIDE World Cup 2025 after winning their fourth-round tiebreaker matches.
R. Praggnanandhaa, a runner-up from a previous World Cup, was eliminated after losing his fourth-round tiebreaker match to Daniil Dubov.
