Centre Engages Farmer Unions Ahead of Punjab Assembly Elections

Centre Engages Farmer Unions Ahead of Punjab Assembly Elections

A group of farmer unions met Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in Gurugram.

The meeting happened several months before Punjab’s 2027 assembly elections.

The farmers gave the government a list of 10 important demands.

They want farmers to receive a guaranteed minimum price for their crops.

They also asked for farm loans to be waived.

The farmers said farming, dairy, poultry and fishing should not be affected by the proposed India-US trade deal.

Other demands involved land compensation, protest cases, sugarcane prices and crop insurance.

The minister said the demands would be sent to the relevant government departments, but no final agreement was reached.
