Child swept away in Saryu River; Char Dham Yatra halted

In Uttarakhand, India, a young boy named Rakesh was swept away by the swollen Saryu River while fetching water with his mother.

Another person, Diwan Singh, died after being struck by lightning.

Heavy rains caused landslides that blocked many roads, including national highways.

Because of the dangerous conditions, the Char Dham Yatra pilgrimage was temporarily stopped to keep everyone safe.

The government has issued red and orange alerts for different districts and has asked schools to close to keep students safe.

Rescue teams are searching for the missing child, but he has not been found yet.
