Telangana Mandates Road Safety Course for New Drivers
The Telangana government has decided that anyone who wants a driving licence must first finish a special safety course.
The course has six short parts, each about 25 minutes, and teaches 64 rules and shows 120 videos.
People have to pass a quiz after each part.
The pilot test in Kukatpally had 1,070 people start the course and 890 finish it.
The program is free and can be taken in four languages.
It was made after a Supreme Court committee said the state should do more safety training.
The Transport Commissioner, Ilyambarthi, designed the course by looking at how other countries train drivers.
UNICEF helped pay for 60% of the course content.
The goal is to make new drivers safer and cut down on accidents caused by mistakes.
Telangana requires all driving licence applicants to complete a mandatory road safety course before booking a test slot.
The course covers 64 rules, 120 videos, six 25‑minute modules, and includes quizzes after each section.
Pilot at Kukatpally RTO saw 1,070 enrollments, 890 completions, and the program is free in four languages.
Transport Commissioner Ilyambarthi designed the curriculum after studying global practices, with 60% of content funding from UNICEF.
The initiative follows Supreme Court Committee recommendations and aims to reduce human‑error accidents.
