BJP MP urges removal of 'Lord' title for British rulers
A BJP MP named Sujeeth Kumar spoke in the Rajya Sabha about how history textbooks and government websites still use the title 'Lord' for British rulers like Lord Curzon and Lord Mountbatten.
He thinks this is not right because it keeps reminding us of the colonial times.
He said that even though India is independent for 75 years, using these titles shows a 'colonial mindset.'
He gave examples like the Prime Minister renaming Rajpath to Kartavya Path to show how India is moving away from colonial symbols.
He also talked about the Prime Minister's plan to remove any traces of the 'slavery mindset' by 2047.
The MP believes that using these titles is against the idea of social equality and the spirit of the Indian constitution.
BJP MP Sujeeth Kumar urged the removal of the 'Lord' title for British Viceroys and Governor Generals in textbooks and official records.
He cited examples from NCERT textbooks, government documents, and websites like the Ministry of Culture and ASI.
Kumar argued that using these titles perpetuates a colonial mindset and goes against social equality and the Indian constitution.
He drew parallels with Prime Minister Modi's renaming of Rajpath to Kartavya Path as a step away from colonial symbols.
Kumar referenced Modi's Panch Pran initiative to liberate India from the 'slavery mindset' by 2047.
