Doctors Treat Critically Ill Passenger on Delhi-Aizawl Flight
A woman with kidney disease became very ill while flying from Delhi to Aizawl.
She was having trouble breathing, and her blood oxygen level fell very low.
The flight crew asked for medical help, and doctors who were passengers came to assist her.
They gave her oxygen and medicine, which helped for a while, but she later became worse again.
The plane continued to Aizawl after her oxygen level temporarily improved, rather than diverting to Kolkata.
After landing, the doctors took her to a nearby health centre and helped her breathe with a tube.
She was then taken to a hospital in Aizawl for more care.
She received dialysis, was later able to breathe without the tube, and was reported stable.
A 32-year-old woman with chronic kidney disease became severely breathless aboard an IndiGo flight from Delhi to Aizawl on October 3.
Her oxygen saturation reportedly fell to around 40 per cent, prompting doctors on board to respond to a crew announcement.
The doctors administered oxygen and steroids; her levels improved temporarily, but later fell again.
After landing at Lengpui Airport, doctors took her to Lengpui Community Health Centre, where she was intubated before transfer to an ICU at LRM Hospital in Aizawl.
She later underwent dialysis, was extubated, and was reported to be stable.
