Court denies bail to ex-RS MP Rizvi in forgery case
A court in Mumbai refused to grant pre-arrest bail to Akhtar Hasan Rizvi, a former Rajya Sabha MP and businessman, who is accused of cheating and forgery.
The court said Rizvi is deeply involved in the crime and his custodial interrogation is necessary.
Rizvi is accused of preparing false property documents to deceive the family of the original property owner, who died in 1971.
The prosecution claims Rizvi presented a fake woman to impersonate the deceased and execute a conveyance deed to grab the property.
Rizvi's lawyer argued that he is a reputed person with no criminal record and that his signatures were misused by an employee.
The court noted that Rizvi's name appears on the disputed property based on the deed and that he might tamper with witnesses if granted bail.
