SKM to Protest India-US Trade Pacts
The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), a group of farmers, is planning to protest across India on July 22 against the proposed trade deals between India and the US.
They are worried that these deals will let cheaper farm products from the US and Europe come into India, which could hurt local farmers and small businesses.
The SKM wants the government to stop these deals and discuss them openly in Parliament.
They also support students who are protesting against issues related to exams and want the Education Minister to step down.
The government, however, believes these trade deals will help the economy grow.
The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has announced nationwide protests on July 22 against the proposed India-US Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and other trade pacts.
The SKM has written to President Droupadi Murmu, urging her to intervene and stop the government from signing the agreements.
The SKM claims that the FTAs will devastate small and marginal farmers and adversely affect the MSME sector by allowing subsidized agricultural and industrial products from the US and EU into the Indian market.
The organization demands that all FTA documents be made public and debated in Parliament, arguing that such agreements should not be finalized without legislative scrutiny.
The SKM has also extended support to students protesting against examination-related issues, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and the scrapping of the National Testing Agency (NTA).
