Puducherry Sets October 6 Date for Thattanchavady By-election
Puducherry will hold a special election in Thattanchavady on October 6.
The election is needed because Chief Minister N Rangasamy gave up that seat.
He had won both Thattanchavady and Mangalam in the April 9 Assembly election.
He decided to keep the Mangalam seat.
His party, the AINRC, chose Ashok Anand as its candidate.
Anand is a former legislator and has already started campaigning.
Rangasamy had defeated Congress leader V Vaithilingam in Thattanchavady.
The constituency is considered an area where Rangasamy has strong support.
The Election Commission announced October 6 as the date for the Thattanchavady Assembly by-election.
The seat became vacant after Chief Minister N Rangasamy resigned from the constituency in May.
Rangasamy retained the Mangalam seat after winning both constituencies in the April 9 Assembly polls.
The AINRC has nominated former legislator Ashok Anand, who has begun campaigning through wall writings.
Thattanchavady is regarded as Rangasamy’s stronghold, where he defeated Congress leader V Vaithilingam.
