Global Football Fans Petition FIFA Chief Infantino To Resign
Football fan groups from many countries have started a petition against FIFA president Gianni Infantino.
They want him to resign.
The petition began after he tried to create a business that would sell future World Cup profits to private investors.
Infantino abandoned the plan after strong criticism.
The fans say the plan damaged trust in FIFA.
They also criticize FIFA’s leadership for concentrating too much power in the president’s office.
The petition mentions his past support for a European Super League and World Cups held every two years.
Infantino has resisted calls to leave his position.
Football fan groups worldwide launched the #InfantinoOut petition in Geneva on Thursday.
The petition urges Gianni Infantino to resign as FIFA president and calls for FIFA to be rebuilt.
It follows Infantino’s abandoned plan to sell future World Cup profits through a commercial spinoff to private investors.
The groups accuse FIFA’s leadership of opaque decision-making, concentrated power and a lack of accountability.
The petition also criticizes Infantino’s support for the European Super League project and biennial World Cups.
