Punjab transitions to VB-G RAM G for rural employment
The Punjab government has started a new scheme called VB-G RAM G to replace the old MGNREGA scheme.
This new scheme helps people in rural areas find jobs and ensures that development work continues without any breaks.
The government has made sure that everyone who had a job card under MGNREGA will keep getting work under the new scheme.
New people can also sign up for jobs.
The government has trained more employees to help with the transition and has promised to pay them better and give them longer job contracts.
There have been some discussions with employee unions about making their jobs permanent and increasing their pay, but the government says they need to follow certain rules.
Overall, the goal is to make sure that everyone has work and that the transition is smooth.
Punjab transitions from MGNREGA to VB-G RAM G scheme effective July 1, 2024.
VB-G RAM G offers a 60:40 funding ratio between Centre and State for salaries, wages, and materials.
All existing MGNREGA job card holders automatically continue under the new scheme.
New job card registration camps organized in every Gram Panchayat to enroll new workers.
Government has trained 4,000 employees to ensure service continuity during the transition.
