House Demands xAI Documents Over Pollution Claims
A U.S. congressman named Frank Pallone is asking Elon Musk for information about a big computer center that uses a lot of energy.
He wants to know how many turbines the center has, how much pollution it makes, and if it has the right permits.
Some people say the center is near mostly Black neighborhoods and might be polluting the air.
A lawsuit says the center could release a lot of harmful gases.
The center also uses many methane generators that have increased over time, which worries nearby residents.
House Democrat Frank Pallone has demanded documents from Elon Musk about xAI’s Colossus data centres in Tennessee and Mississippi.
Pallone’s letter requests turbine details, emissions data, permitting records, and a site visit.
The inquiry follows allegations that xAI installed 59 natural gas turbines without required Clean Air Act permits near predominantly Black communities.
A NAACP lawsuit claims xAI illegally released toxic pollutants, including up to 1,700 tons of nitrogen oxides annually, from its Southaven, Mississippi plant.
The Colossus data centre, built to power Grok in Memphis, reportedly doubled its methane generators by 2025, raising further environmental concerns.
