Himachal Mandates SAMARTH Portal for Panchayats
The Himachal Pradesh government has said that all village councils (gram panchayats) in the state must use a special online system called the SAMARTH portal.
This portal helps these village councils manage their money better by keeping track of taxes and other earnings online.
The government of India made this portal to help village councils work more efficiently.
Starting from April 1, all 3,616 village councils in Himachal Pradesh will have to use this portal.
It will help them create bills, collect payments online, keep track of their property, and monitor their income in real-time.
This is a big step towards making the financial management of village councils more modern and transparent.
Himachal Pradesh government mandates the use of the SAMARTH portal for all 3,616 gram panchayats in the state.
The SAMARTH portal is developed by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Government of India, for digitizing tax and non-tax revenues.
Implementation of the portal is effective from April 1 for managing Own Source Revenue (OSR).
The portal facilitates online generation of demand, digital collection of payments, maintenance of panchayat-owned assets, and real-time monitoring of revenue performance.
The move aims to strengthen Panchayati Raj institutions and improve rural financial governance.
