BCCI to scrap elite A+ contract category
The BCCI is removing the highest category of cricket contracts, called A+, because not enough players are playing all three formats of the game.
This category was for players who played Tests, ODIs, and T20s, but now only Jasprit Bumrah fits this.
The other players, like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, are playing fewer formats.
The BCCI will still pay Bumrah well, but others might move to lower categories.
The A+ category was introduced in 2018 and paid Rs 7 crore per year.
Now, the A category might pay Rs 7 crore, and Bumrah will join players like Shubman Gill in that bracket.
BCCI to scrap the A+ contract category due to lack of all-format players.
Only Jasprit Bumrah currently qualifies for the A+ category.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma now play only ODIs, Ravindra Jadeja plays Tests and ODIs.
BCCI assures Bumrah will not face a pay cut despite the category's removal.
Restructuring may see A category players earning Rs 7 crore, including Bumrah and Shubman Gill.
