Khandre suggests radio-collaring captured elephant, reviewing Western Ghats projects
A government minister named Eshwar Khandre suggested putting a special collar on an elephant that was captured after it was involved in harming people.
This collar would help track the elephant if it's released back into the forest.
The minister also talked about other important environmental topics.
He wants to make sure that building roads and other projects in the Western Ghats doesn't harm the environment or the animals living there.
He also suggested changing how hills are cut to prevent landslides.
Additionally, a plan to release some land from a monkey sanctuary was sent to a national board for approval.
The minister also approved using a small part of a forest for a project to bring drinking water to many homes.
Lastly, he asked for more information before deciding on putting up phone towers in some sanctuaries and directed a visit to a proposed leopard conservation area.
Forest Minister Eshwar B. Khandre suggested radio-collaring a captured elephant involved in human deaths before releasing it.
Future State Wildlife Board meetings will be attended by Forest and Wildlife Ambassador Anil Kumble.
All ongoing projects in the Western Ghats are to be reviewed for environmental compliance, with proposed slope cutting angles reduced.
A proposal to release part of the Sharavathi Lion-tailed Macaque Wildlife Sanctuary has been sent for national approval.
Forest land was approved for a drinking water project, while proposals for communication towers were deferred pending environmental reports.
