NMC Proposes Rotatory Headship in Medical Colleges
Imagine a school for doctors, and the bosses of each department change every three years.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) wants to make this happen in medical colleges.
Right now, one professor is the boss (HoD) of a department.
The NMC is suggesting that instead, professors and eligible associate professors take turns being the HoD for three years at a time.
This idea is based on what faculty groups have wanted for a long time.
The goal is to be fair and give other qualified doctors a chance to lead.
They are also asking people to share their thoughts on the plan before it's finalized.
NMC proposed a three-year rotatory headship for departments in medical colleges.
The proposal amends the Postgraduate Medical Education Regulations (PGMER) 2023.
The headship will rotate among eligible professors and associate professors.
Faculty associations have previously advocated for rotatory headship.
The NMC is seeking feedback on the proposed changes from stakeholders.
