Rajbhar Demands OBC Quota Sub-Categorization Implementation
Om Prakash Rajbhar, a minister in Uttar Pradesh, wants the government to change how it gives out benefits for the Other Backward Classes (OBCs).
He's asking them to use a report from a committee formed in 2001 that suggests breaking the OBC quota into smaller groups.
This is because he believes that the current system doesn't give everyone in the OBC group a fair chance.
Some groups get most of the benefits, while others are left out.
He's urging the government to use these changes in upcoming elections and government jobs and cites states such as Haryana that have already implemented similar actions.
Om Prakash Rajbhar urged implementation of the Social Justice Committee report.
The committee recommended sub-categorizing the 27% OBC reservation.
Successive governments failed to implement the report.
A 2017 committee also recommended dividing the OBC quota.
Sub-categorization is essential to ensure equitable benefits, as emphasized by the High and Supreme Court.
