India's AI and Economic Push at Davos 2026
At the World Economic Forum in Davos 2026, India is making big news.
IBM's CEO Arvind Krishna and India's IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw talked about how India is good at making special kinds of AI.
They said India doesn't need to make the biggest AI models to be innovative.
Instead, they think smaller, focused AI models that use local data are the way to go.
They also mentioned that India has already used these kinds of AI models in important defense situations.
Krishna also said that believing in very advanced AI, called AGI, is like believing in something without enough proof.
He thinks the future of AI is in making models that are cheaper and more efficient.
Meanwhile, India is also making big economic deals.
Maharashtra signed agreements worth Rs 16 lakh crore, and Andhra Pradesh got a $10-billion investment from Google.
The European Union is close to finalizing a big trade deal with India.
Global leaders are recognizing India as a fast-growing economy and a trusted partner in technology.
IBM CEO Arvind Krishna and Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw defended India's AI innovation at Davos, focusing on smaller, sector-specific AI models infused with sovereign data.
Vaishnaw revealed that sovereign AI models were successfully used in a major defense scenario, positioning India as a global architect of next-generation technologies.
Krishna criticized the belief in AGI, stating it's more like religion and lacks scientific proof, advocating for cheaper and more efficient AI models.
