South Korea Seeks North Korea Dialogue While Expanding Defenses

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung asked North Korea to start talking again.

He said both countries should rebuild trust and lower military tensions.

The request came after a landmine explosion injured three South Korean soldiers in the Demilitarized Zone.

South Korea and the United Nations Command said North Korea was responsible and had broken the armistice agreement.

Kim Yo Jong, a senior North Korean official, denied those conclusions.

She said South Korea had made up the findings and warned that North Korea could respond.

Lee also said South Korea would strengthen its military.

His plans include new submarines, better missile defenses and more artificial intelligence for military systems.
