Colombia Ex-President Uribe Sentenced to House Arrest

Colombia Ex-President Uribe Sentenced to House Arrest

Alvaro Uribe, who used to be the president of Colombia, was sentenced to 12 years of house arrest.

He was found guilty of trying to bribe someone and misusing the legal process.

He also has to pay a fine and can't hold public office for a while.

The case is about him possibly trying to influence witnesses in a case about his ties to paramilitaries, which are groups that have fought in Colombia's civil conflict.

Uribe says he is innocent, but the judge announced the sentence on Friday, and his legal team is planning to appeal the decision.
