India Launches Digital Census in West Bengal
India is doing its census, which counts how many people live in the country.
In West Bengal, people can fill out a form on a phone or computer instead of a paper form.
They answer 34 questions about things like electricity, gas, toilets, and whether they have a TV or internet.
After the online part, workers will visit homes to double‑check the answers.
The goal is to make the census faster, more accurate, and easier for everyone to use.
First phase of the national census starts in West Bengal using a digital self‑enumeration app and portal.
Citizens answer 34 questions about household amenities, including electricity, LPG, toilets, internet, and separate families sharing a home.
The online system will be followed by door‑to‑door verification from 16 August to 14 September.
District officials, such as Shilpa Gaurisaria, report that preparations and training are complete and awareness campaigns have reached 341 schools.
The census aims to modernize data collection, making it faster, more accurate, and more accessible.
