mjunction: Coal Demand to Remain Sluggish in Current Fiscal Year
mjunction, a company that helps sell coal, says that the demand for coal in India is expected to be slow right now.
This is because there was a lot of rain, which slowed things down, and there's also a lot of coal available.
Even though there's a lot of coal being produced, the demand hasn't grown as much.
This has led to a large amount of coal sitting around.
Importers are also buying a lot of coal because it's cheaper.
However, in the long run, mjunction expects the demand for coal to increase, but at a slower pace due to new power projects.
Coal demand is expected to be sluggish in the current fiscal year.
A market glut is present in the domestic coal market.
Coal-based power generation decreased by 5.4% until August 2025.
High coal stocks are present in the system, around 150 million tonnes.
mjunction has sold 844 MT of coal in 25 years.
