Kuldeep Yadav’s World Cup Case Strengthened by Match-Winning Spell
Kuldeep Yadav is a special spin bowler for India.
In a match against West Indies, he had to wait until the 16th over before bowling.
Once he got the ball, he used different speeds, angles and amounts of spin to confuse the batters.
He took five wickets and gave away relatively few runs.
His bowling helped India stop West Indies from building a very large score.
The article says Kuldeep can change a game even though he is not a strong batter.
It argues that India should treat him as an important player for the World Cup.
The performance also showed how Kuldeep has become more controlled and tactically mature.
Kuldeep Yadav took five wickets in India’s first ODI against West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram.
He bowled 9 overs for 36 runs, including 34 dot balls, two boundaries conceded and one six.
His spell helped restrict West Indies after they reached 174 runs in 30 overs.
Kuldeep dismissed John Campbell, Shai Hope, Justin Greaves and Keacy Carty through changes of pace, length and trajectory.
The performance renewed the argument that India should value Kuldeep’s specialist spin despite his limited batting contributions.

World Cup selection
Specialist Spin Value
Kuldeep’s five-wicket spell and ability to define matches justify selecting him as a priority specialist bowler.
Batting Utility and Team Balance
The article notes that a batting collapse can put a high-class spinner’s place at risk when selectors seek an additional batter or seamer.
Bowling style
Specialist Spin Value
Kuldeep offers deception through variations in length, speed, trajectory, angle, drift, drop and turn, giving India a different threat from finger spin.
Batting Utility and Team Balance
His value can be questioned when his batting contribution is modest, particularly in formats where teams prioritize overall batting depth.
Consistency of selection
Specialist Spin Value
The article argues that Kuldeep should receive the same selection security as Jasprit Bumrah, whose batting is also not a major part of his value.
Batting Utility and Team Balance
Kuldeep’s previous omission after two poor matches against New Zealand illustrates that team management has treated his place as dependent on recent results and team composition.
