Bombay HC Seeks Maharashtra Stance on Eco-Friendly Ganesh Idols
The Bombay High Court asked the Maharashtra government to say whether it supports Prime Minister Narendra Modi's request that people use only eco-friendly clay idols for the Ganesh festival.
The court will wait for the government’s answer before hearing more.
The state’s chief minister, Devendra Fadnavis, will meet with all parties on July 31 to talk about the request.
The court is also hearing cases about new rules that stop using plaster of Paris idols in rivers.
Companies that make those idols want to argue that the rules are not legal, so they will wait for the government’s decision before speaking.
The court will hear the companies’ arguments on August 5.
