Indian-Origin Man Jailed for Heroin Smuggling Conspiracy
A man named Rajesh Bakshi, who is from India, was sent to jail for 10 years.
He admitted to trying to smuggle a very dangerous drug called heroin into the UK.
Another man, Jon-Paul Clark, was also sent to jail for 9 years.
He tried to say he wasn't involved, but the court didn't believe him.
The police found their fingerprints and DNA on the drugs, which were worth a lot of money.
Both men didn't care about how the drugs hurt people in their communities.
The police will keep working to stop drugs like these from coming into the country.
Rajesh Bakshi, a 57-year-old Indian-origin man, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for conspiring to smuggle heroin into the UK.
Jon-Paul Clark, a 44-year-old co-conspirator, was sentenced to 9 years in prison after a trial at Canterbury Crown Court.
The National Crime Agency (NCA) found Bakshi's fingerprints and Clark's DNA on a heroin consignment worth 4 million pounds, seized at the Port of Dover in June 2022.
Clark attempted to deny involvement, claiming his DNA was on the drugs because he wore Bakshi's sweater, but the jury saw through his defense.
Both men's phones showed they were in the Netherlands and Belgium before the drugs were intercepted, with evidence including a photo of them together and texts about money.
