Ghana Border Irrigation Projects Boost Year-Round Farming and Livelihoods

Ghana Border Irrigation Projects Boost Year-Round Farming and Livelihoods

Farmers in two Ghanaian border communities have received new irrigation farms.

The farms are in Konjiahi near Burkina Faso and Awiakrom near Côte d’Ivoire.

Irrigation provides water when rain is scarce.

This means farmers can grow crops during more months of the year.

The projects may help families produce more food and earn steadier incomes.

They may also create jobs for young people.

In Awiakrom, farming could support businesses such as storage, transport and food processing.

Local residents will help manage the farms together.

The projects are meant to help communities cope with changing weather and dry seasons.
