Indian Consumers Shift from Jewellery to Gold Investments
Gold prices have been going up a lot, reaching a record high.
In India, people usually buy gold jewellery, especially during festivals, because it's traditional and valuable.
But now, because the prices are so high, many are choosing to buy smaller gold coins or bars instead of jewellery.
Some are also buying less gold or opting for lighter and lower-carat jewellery to save money.
This change is expected to continue into next year as gold prices stay high and people see it as a good investment.
Experts say that more people are investing in gold through exchange-traded funds (ETFs) as well.
Silver prices have also gone up a lot, but they fell a bit on the last day of the year.
Indian consumers are shifting from gold jewellery to bars and coins due to record-high prices.
Global gold prices surged 62.14% in 2025, with Indian domestic prices rising 73.45%.
Jewellery demand fell 26% in the first nine months of 2025, while investment demand rose 13%.
Consumers are opting for lighter, lower-carat jewellery or investing in gold ETFs.
The trend is expected to continue into 2026 as gold prices remain high and investment options gain popularity.
