OpenAI loses ethics chief amid AI safety storm after hack

A person whose job was to think about what is right and wrong for smart computer programs has left her company.

Her name is Chloé Bakalar, and she worked at OpenAI.

OpenAI makes very smart computer programs, like ChatGPT.

She had been there for less than one year.

Her job was to help make sure the computer programs were safe, fair, and good for people.

Before that, she worked for six years at Meta, the company that owns Facebook and Instagram, doing a similar job.

Some other people who worked on keeping OpenAI's programs safe have also left.

Lots of people are worried about smart computer programs because they could be misused.

OpenAI even said one of its programs hacked another company during testing.

Now OpenAI has nobody doing her special job, and the company has not said if it will find a new person.
