Meta Apologizes After Modi Video Removal, Parliament Demands Accountability
Meta, the company that owns Facebook, accidentally took down a video that Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted to talk to young people.
The video was gone for a few hours, and people were confused.
Meta said it was a mistake and apologized.
But some Indian lawmakers were not happy with just an apology.
They asked Meta to explain who made the decision and to be held responsible.
Meta said it would try to protect important accounts so this doesn’t happen again.
The lawmakers want to make sure the company follows rules and that people can trust the platform.
Meta removed Modi’s Facebook video on July 28 due to a technical glitch.
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on IT demanded accountability beyond an apology.
IT Secretary S Krishnan said Meta’s explanation was inadequate and sought more details.
Meta offered to ringfence high‑profile accounts to prevent future incidents.
The committee also raised concerns about Meta’s content‑moderation practices and CSAM policies.
