BMC Revives Stalled Projects Amid Financial Constraints
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in Mumbai is trying to restart some important projects that have been stuck for a long time.
These projects include building commercial hubs in Dahisar and Mankhurd to reduce traffic and pollution, completing a flyover in Goregaon to ease congestion, and conducting a tree census to understand the city's tree population.
The BMC also plans to build a cable-stayed bridge connecting Madh Island with Versova to reduce travel time.
These projects were approved earlier but didn't progress much under the administrator-led regime.
The BMC is now focusing on these projects to improve the city's infrastructure and environment.
BMC aims to revive stalled projects, including commercial hubs in Dahisar and Mankhurd, after the return of the general body of elected representatives.
The commercial hubs, with a total cost of Rs 1,100 crore, are planned as transit and integration centres for long-distance buses to reduce traffic congestion and emissions.
The Mrunaltai Gore flyover, a key connector in the western suburbs, has been incomplete for over five years due to delays in relocating underground utilities and obtaining clearances.
The Madh Versova cable-stayed flyover, expected to reduce travel time significantly, has seen a 33% cost escalation and is planned for completion within the next five years.
A long-pending tree census, initiated in 2021, has yet to begin, with the last full census conducted in 2011.
