Madhya Pradesh Private Schools Await ₹800 Crore RTE Reimbursements

Madhya Pradesh Private Schools Await ₹800 Crore RTE Reimbursements

Private schools in Madhya Pradesh teach some children for free under the Right to Education Act.

The law requires them to keep at least 25% of entry-level seats for disadvantaged children.

The government is supposed to repay the schools for this education.

Schools say about ₹800 crore in payments for two school years has not yet arrived.

This is especially difficult for small schools with many RTE students.

The School Education Department says it has asked the Finance Department to release the money.

School groups say they may hold a hunger strike and march to the Chief Minister’s residence.

Government figures show that ₹404.34 crore was reimbursed during 2024-25 for 7.09 lakh children.

The government also says more than ₹3,000 crore has been reimbursed since the program began in 2011-12.
