India Tightens Toll Fee Compliance Rules
The government has made changes to the rules about paying toll fees on highways.
Now, if you don't pay the toll fee, you won't be able to do certain things with your vehicle, like transferring ownership or renewing its fitness certificate.
The rules also make it easier to do these things online.
The changes were made after the government asked for suggestions from people and considered their feedback.
This is to make sure everyone pays their toll fees and to make the system more efficient.
Government introduced 'Central Motor Vehicles (Second Amendment) Rules, 2026' to strengthen toll fee compliance.
New definition of 'unpaid user fee' introduced, linking clearance of unpaid fees to vehicle-related services.
No Objection Certificate (NOC) for vehicle transfer or renewal of Certificate of Fitness will not be granted until unpaid fees are cleared.
Commercial vehicles seeking a National Permit must have no unpaid user fees.
Form 28 updated to require disclosure of pending unpaid user fee demands, with electronic issuance enabled.
