AP Legal Bodies Function Without Heads
Several important legal and regulatory bodies in Andhra Pradesh, like the Human Rights Commission and the Electricity Regulatory Commission, have been working without permanent leaders for many months.
The government has been slow to appoint new heads, and some people think this is because of political reasons.
These bodies are supposed to help with important issues, but without leaders, they can't do their jobs properly.
Some employees are still getting paid even though they're not working much, which is causing criticism.
The government says court cases are delaying the appointments, but others think the delay is intentional.
APHRC, Lokayukta, APERC, and other bodies are functioning without permanent heads.
APHRC's last appointments ended in March 2024, and new appointments are delayed.
Lokayukta has been headless since September 2024, with an interim in-charge.
APERC is operating with an in-charge chairman since Q4 2024.
CWCs and JJBs across the state have not had new appointments since November 2024.
