Hyderabad's Water Supply to Increase by 2027
Hyderabad is working on a big project to bring more water from the Godavari River to the city.
Right now, there isn't enough water for everyone, and some areas have to use water tankers.
The new project will add a lot more water by 2027, which will help make sure everyone has enough water to drink.
Until then, the city is trying to use water wisely and collect rainwater to help with the shortage.
Hyderabad faces a daily water shortage of 100–150 MGD.
The Godavari Drinking Water Supply Scheme (GDWSS) Phase II and III will add 320 MGD of water by December 2027.
Currently, 560–570 MGD of water is supplied daily, with water tankers meeting increased demand.
Rainwater harvesting structures are being installed to recharge groundwater.
The HMWSSB is optimising water supplies from various sources to manage the current shortage.

Water Shortage
Current Water Management
Hyderabad currently faces a daily water shortage of 100–150 MGD, leading to reduced water supply for industrial and commercial purposes.
Future Water Supply Plans
The Godavari Drinking Water Supply Scheme (GDWSS) Phase II and III will add 320 MGD of water by December 2027, significantly improving water security.
Tanker Demand
Current Water Management
The demand for water tankers has increased by 30% due to declining groundwater levels, with 1,200 tankers operating to meet demand.
Future Water Supply Plans
The HMWSSB plans to optimise water supplies from various sources and promote rainwater harvesting to reduce reliance on tankers.
