India Considers Measures to Boost Electric Vehicle Adoption
The government is thinking about not making electric cars follow the rule that says cars have to be taken off the road after 15 years, to encourage more people to buy them.
They are also going to make rules about how fuel-efficient trucks and buses need to be.
Officials discussed these ideas because not enough people are buying electric vehicles.
The government is also talking to banks to make it easier for people to get loans for EVs.
This is all to help more people switch to electric cars.
Government may exempt EVs from the 15-year 'end of life' regulation.
The Power Ministry plans to extend Corporate Average Fuel Economy norms to urban freight vehicles.
These measures were discussed in a meeting chaired by NITI Aayog member Rajiv Gauba.
EV adoption in India reached 7.8% in 2024, below the 30% target by 2030.
The Finance Ministry discussed with banks to address financing reluctance and higher interest rates.
